Development of Field assay/device for rapid detection of antibiotic susceptibility using Resazurin Method:

Created a device and software this detects aerobic activity in a solution. It uses IoT device to detect and find colour intensity from Elisa Plate using Resazurin method.

Introduction:

Resazurin is commonly used to measure bacterial and eukaryotic cell viability through its reduction to the fluorescent product resorufin. The resazurin assay protocol is based on the reduction of oxidized non-fluorescent blue resazurin to a red fluorescent dye (resorufin) by the mitochondrial respiratory chain in live cells. The amount of resorufin produced is directly proportional to the number of living cells. So change in color means the strength of aerobic activity in a solution.

Humans can easily identify a color and then name it whereas computers can only know the RGB value of a pixel. So it is a difficult task for a computer to give the human color name for a particular RGB value. To perform color recognition, a device has to be developed that can capture an image, process it and then give the correct color name for a given sample. This device is portable and easy to use. The system code is written in python, which includes a dictionary that includes more than 250+ color shades. The system can find the nearest matching color from the available dictionary.
